Introduction
The UFG’s Graduation Program in Environmental Sciences, for reasons arising from its geographical situation, the tradition of research by its professors, and the vocation of the Federal University of Goiás, built its identity regarding aspects of the occupation of the Cerrado Biome, both in the economic, social and environmental aspects. The main objective is to train high level multi/interdisciplinary staff to work in higher education, in addition to research and extension in Environmental Sciences, in the area of Environmental Structure and Dynamics, both in topics related to the physical environment, as well as biotic and social, in an integrated manner, whether in the development of different theoretical models, as well as in the performance of specialized technical functions, aimed at finding solutions for the conservation and management of natural and social resources, with emphasis on the Cerrado Biome. The epistemological and political basis that provides the theoretical support for the course has been that of eco-development, holistic vision, and socio-environmental sustainability, where efficient economic development must lead to the improvement of human life conditions, on any scale. This tradition of studies, developed over 20 years, enabled CIAMB to undertake new objectives, articulated with the previously presented. Thus, two institutional cooperation programs have now been developed in the northern region - with the Federal University of Amazonas and with the Federal University of Western Pará - to study the origins and consequences of the anthropization of the Amazon. Likewise, internationalization efforts have been carried out to study the anthropization of other savannas on the African continent, particularly (but not only) in Mozambique.
